Choosing a LockTite Storage Unit Guide

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are not required to store with LockTite, but calling ahead never hurts. By reserving a unit in advance, this ensures there will be a unit ready when you arrive with your inventory or belongings. Reservations can be made by phone, email, on our website, or in person, within 30 days of your intended moving date.

How do I cancel my reservation?

You can cancel or change a reservation during regular business hours by reaching out to the site manager by phone, email, or in person.  

Can I rent in person or on the telephone?

Yes, you may rent a unit in person or over the phone.  Come by any of our locations or give us a call. We would love to hear from you! 

What size self-storage units do you have?

Our storage units range in size from 5′x5′ to 14’x85′ and are approximately 8’-14’ high (all dimensions are approximate) depending on the location. Some locations also offer larger storage options including large warehouse spaces, RV and boat parking spaces. What’s the difference between an indoor unit and an outdoor unit?

Indoor units are protected from the elements and have wide hallways (and elevators in multistory properties). In all LockTite properties, these are climate-controlled. Outdoor units are usually all on one level and frequently offer drive-up access to your storage unit. Outdoor units typically resemble the environment of a garage with the same ease of access that would expect if it were a part of your home. But, LockTite has some that are also climate-controlled. Check out our Seguin location. Drive-up climate control is also coming to Dripping Springs in 2018.

What is climate-controlled storage?

LockTite climate-controlled storage units keep items in a constant environment that is air-conditioned (temperature settings between 72°F and 76°F) and equipped with supplemental humidity reduction equipment. Climate-controlled units are enclosed within a building structure, resulting in less dust, pests, humidity, and other threats to your belongings. We recommend storing your most valuable belongings in climate-controlled storage units.

What is dehumidification?

Dehumidification is the process of removing excess moisture from the air by the use of supplemental humidity protective equipment. LockTite Storage uses this specialized equipment to reduce moisture levels from the high amounts often found in Texas. This contributes to prolonging the life of furniture, photos, antiques, and electronics in storage.

What is a breezeway?

A breezeway unit is always on the ground floor and never more than a 40' walk from an entrance, resulting in easy load-in/load-out. These units tend to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and are sheltered from the harsh Texas sun.  Not only are your belongings protected from the sun and rain during the summer and inclement weather but you are too!

What is a drive-up unit?

A drive-up unit is accessed through a roll-up, garage-style door directly from a driveway - in other words, ‘you drive up to your unit.’ It is almost always on the first floor of the facility and is popular for storing large or heavy items. You may park your vehicle directly in front of the unit, eliminating the need to cart belongings through a hallway or up an elevator. LockTite also offers rare climate-control drive-up units at its Seguin location and more are coming soon to other LockTite facilities. Watch for climate-control drive-up at Dripping Springs in 2018.

What is a carpeted unit?

Usually located within a climate-controlled building, carpet in the unit covers the concrete floor. The benefits are: 1) to better protect valuable items such as fine furniture that might be scratched or damaged by contact with a concrete floor; 2) reduce dust floating in the unit and, 3) it make your important belongings feel at home! (LOL!). Warning: no items that could leak any liquid should be stored in a carpeted unit. 

What is a roll-up door?

Roll-up doors are like garage doors – they roll up overhead for easy access. They’re usually wider than swing doors and allow you to maximize the usage of your storage space. Select LockTite locations offer electric garage door openers for large roll-up door units.

Do you have parking for cars and motorcycles?

Yes, most LockTite Storage locations offer drive-up storage units that are great for storing cars and motorcycles. The ideal size storage unit for storing a car is 10’x20’. Most motorcycles can fit in a 5x10 or 5x15.

Do you offer RV and boat storage?

We offer both covered and uncovered RV and boat parking at select LockTite Storage locations. Please check with your neighborhood LockTite Storage to see if this feature is available.

Do you have electrical outlets in your units?

Most of our storage units are not equipped with electrical outlets though large units, over 250 square feet, often do. If having access to electrical power is important to you, be sure to mention it to your property manager. That facility may have it available or our managers will try to accommodate you by positioning your unit near an accessible outlet. Select locations have vehicle/recreational storage units with standard power outlets including some units that have 30-amp power. These units can be used for personal and business storage also.


The Move-in Process

Does LockTite Storage provide locks?

We provide our customers a free lock for every storage unit rented. Additional locks are available for purchase in the office.

Do you keep a key to my self-storage unit?

We do not unless you specifically request it. The lock we give you will come with multiple keys, and we do not have a duplicate or a master key. If you choose to take advantage of our delivery acceptance amenity, we will keep a copy of your key in our office to facilitate deliveries made directly to your storage unit as long as we have written authorization from you to do so.

Do you have trucks available for moving?

Yes, we offer free use of our moving truck for all move-ins and move-outs.The only thing you pay for is the gas and a reasonable mileage charge for trips greater than 50 miles. Our moving truck is also available to our customers at any time when it is not being used for those moving in or moving out. Our moving trucks are frequently used by our customers so please call us in advance to reserve your spot. Be sure to bring a valid driver’s license and proof of full coverage insurance.

Is there a mileage limit for the truck or trailer?

You can use our moving truck for free for up to 50 miles per day. We charge a per-mile overage fee for additional miles. The trailers are free to use and do not have a mileage limit.

How do I reserve the LockTite moving truck or trailer?

Simply call the office managers at your LockTite location during business hours to reserve the truck or trailer for a particular day. You may also email or text us your requested date if that is more convenient.

Can I borrow handcarts or dollies from LockTite Storage?

Absolutely!  You’re welcome to use our complimentary carts and dollies while you’re at LockTite Storage. When you are finished using them, please place all carts and dollies in their designated areas.

Do you have elevators?

Yes. If there is no direct exterior access to your floor, there are large elevators available for use. Most of our facilities are single-story buildings for easy access.

Security and Access

When can I access my self-storage unit?

All LockTite Storage properties are open for your use seven days a week, 365 days a year, but access hours may vary by location. Select a location for hours and features.

What’s the difference between access hours and office hours?

During access hours, you can use your gate code to access your storage unit. During office hours, our managers are available to provide in-person customer service (like answering questions, accepting rental payment, etc.). Also, if you need access outside our standard hours ask the manager if an accommodation can be made. 24-hour access is often provided for businesses, boat and RV customers.

Will my stuff be safe?

No one can guarantee safety while storing your belongings at their facility. However, we work hard to equip our facilities with security features that deter crime. Here’s what we do to protect our buildings (some details vary by location):

  • 24-hour video cameras
  • Electronic keypad or fob access to gated areas
  • On-site managers at every property six days a week
  • Full-time maintenance staff to keep everything clean and well-maintained

Can my spouse, kids, employees or friend have access to my storage unit?

When you rent from LockTite Storage, you can designate specific people who can have access to your unit (or you can restrict access to yourself only). Additional people who grant access will be provided their own access code or fob (fobs are only used at the Dripping Spring location).

What if I forget my access code or lose my fob?

Call your LockTite Storage property manager during regular business hours for assistance regarding forgotten access codes (or fobs at Dripping Springs). We value you as a customer and do our best to ensure that only yourself or the person(s) you have designated are accessing your unit; so please do not be offended if we ask you for proof of your identity.

Lease Terms and Billing

Do you rent space month-to-month or do I have to sign a long-term lease?

Our rental contracts are month-to-month agreements – no long-term lease is required.

What kind of documentation do I need to provide to rent a storage unit?

You will need to provide a valid, government-issued form of identification (e.g., Driver's License, State ID, or Passport) with a photograph

How do I move out?

As a courtesy, we ask that you give notice at least ten days before you intend to vacate. Then the move-out process is easy: simply 1) empty your storage unit and 2) call or stop by the office to let us know you've emptied your unit. We'll close out your account that day. 3) Please remember to take your lock as you are the only one who has a key; the lock is yours to keep.

Must I have insurance for my items in storage?

Yes, for our tenants' protection you are responsible for maintaining insurance on the items you store at LockTite Storage.  We conveniently offer self-storage insurance at our facilities through MiniCo Tenant Insurance Company. If you already have coverage, please provide a copy of your insurance declarations page at the time of rental.

Do you have automatic payment options?

We sure do!   You can sign up for autopay with our managers at move-in or at any point while you’re a customer with us. We’ll automatically deduct your monthly charges from a credit card, debit card, or bank account. No bills, no checks to mail, no late fees. If you don’t want your rental payment to be paid automatically, you can submit payment manually every month by clicking “Pay Online” on the LockTite website.

I don’t want to pay online. Can I pay in person?

Absolutely. Our friendly office managers will help you get everything squared away. You can pay in-person with cash, check, or credit/debit card.

What if I’m late in making my payment?

We bill on the 1st of each month. If your payment is late, we give every customer a 5-day grace period before charging a late fee on the 6th of the month. After the 5th any account that is past due will be denied access to their unit by management until such time the balance is brought current. If you don’t pay by the 15th, there is an additional late fee added to your account. To avoid the possibility of late fees and being locked out at the gate altogether, we recommend signing up for autopay. Your late fee amounts are specified in your rental agreement.

If I don’t rent storage, can I still purchase moving and packing supplies?

Yes! Anyone can buy our high-quality discounted moving supplies at any of our properties. We keep the most commonly-used moving supplies including boxes, tape, and packing paper plus for anyone storing a mattress - a plastic bag made to protect it against damage.

What if I fail to pay my rent?

If your rent and any associated fees are not paid, then you are at risk under Texas law of the contents of your unit being sold at auction to pay unpaid rent, fees, and costs of the sale incurred by the facility owner. If any net proceeds from the auction remain, then they would be paid to you. BUT, we never WANT to sell your things. We simply want to be paid the rent owed to us. The best option is to immediately call your location manager if you are unable to  pay. We have a One Time Grace Period Program. It allows any tenant to have a catch-up program once. Another option in the first month that you don't pay is to let the manager know you can't pay and move out. That will stop all collection efforts.

Do you hold auctions?

Yes, unfortunately sometimes we have no alternative but to conduct a public sale of items that are being sold to satisfy a lien due to unpaid rent and fees.  We go to every extent not to hold auctions, but at times they just can't be avoided. When this happens, we post our auctions on to be auctioned and sold online.
